The Inspiration

When leukaemia patient Paul Carless met the Calendar Girls, he was inspired by them to get involved with Bloodwise and to raise funds. He and Tom Stockwell have undertaken challenges over the last four years to raise money for Bloodwise.

To date, the Girls have raised over £5 million pounds for Bloodwise! A staggering amount.

Calendar Girls The Musical

Written by Tim Firth and Gary Barlow, the musical tells the story of how the alternative WI Calendar came into being. Tim Firth wrote the screenplay for Calendar Girls starring Helen Mirren and Julie Waters and later turned this into a stage play.

Tim collaborated with Gary Barlow to write the musical version which enjoyed a run at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End in 2017. The musical is to tour starting in August 2018.

A lyric from the opening song 'Yorkshire' was the inspiration for this challenge. Watch this performed at the 2017 Olivier Awards.
